The Story

The scheme gives Abertay staff the opportunity to lease a low carbon vehicle of their choice via partners GMP Drivercare, paid through a salary sacrifice arrangement to enable savings on tax and national insurance.

Staff can choose from a wide range of new and used vehicles with packages also including maintenance and insurance costs.

Head of Procurement Rhonda McKay said: “This scheme will be a great benefit for staff as the University continues to support the drive towards Net Zero. Encouraging staff into more sustainable methods of transport is just one part of our wider Sustainable Development Strategy which links through to local priorities in Dundee, the Scottish and UK Government’s wider sustainability targets and the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”

Electric and low carbon vehicles offer numerous environmental and social benefits and produce significantly fewer greenhouse gas emissions than traditional petrol or diesel cars, helping to mitigate climate change. By reducing air pollutants, they contribute to improved air quality, which supports better public health, especially in urban areas.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are also quieter, which leads to reduced noise pollution in busy cities like Dundee enhancing the quality of life for students, staff and local residents.

Over time, EVs tend to have lower running and maintenance costs, making sustainable transportation more affordable in the long term.
