Bin App to help the public find everything from collection days to what goes into each bin and ordering bins and uplifts. The project's aim was to provide information as simply as possible so that people don't have to go looking too much for the important information.

The Story
We identified a need to get information to people as quickly as possible and to provide collection dates in a more modern format, moving away from paper calendars. Based on feedback from our interactions with the public, we developed an app that delivers this information and expanded its functionality to link to our website’s A-Z guide on what goes into each bin, as well as other helpful resources, such as ordering new bins and arranging bulky uplifts. The app’s layout allows for a more intuitive experience for users.

The HL web app was also linked to the A-Z guide, ensuring consistent information is available across multiple resources. We collaborated with multiple service areas within the council, including the customer services team, to address as many frequently asked questions as possible. Additionally, we included notification and reminder options so people don’t forget to put their bins out and can receive alerts about service disruptions or contamination issues.
This approach has received a lot of positive feedback.
Success & Outcomes
Currently we are measuring the number of downloads, the number of notifications that are received (when messages are pushed out, we can see how many devices received these) and also noting feedback from the public and making changes when required.
